Key Vocabulary

The following is a list of key vocabulary that you will need to know to understand the lesson. Click on the word to hear the pronunciation.

► vendedor (m) (la vendedora) = seller
► cobrar = to charge (regular -ar verb)
► calidad (f) = quality
► nada más = only (nothing more)
► si = if
► sobrina (f) = niece
► aceptar = to accept (regular -ar verb)
► por ciento = percent

Note that si (without an accent) is "if," but sí (with an accent) is "yes."

MUJER - Quiero comprar una camiseta para mi hija. ¿Cuánto cuestan estas?
VENDEDOR - $20
MUJER - ¿$20? Es muy caro para una camiseta. En la otra tienda cobran $10.
VENDEDOR - Pero estas camisetas son de mejor calidad. Para usted, nada más voy a cobrar $15.
MUJER - ¿Y si compro dos hay un descuento?
VENDEDOR - Dos por $25.
MUJER - ¿Tienen talla chica?
VENDEDOR - Sí, aquí está.
MUJER - Quiero talla chica para mi hija y mediana para mi sobrina. Dos camisetas. ¿Aceptan tarjetas de crédito?
VENDEDOR - Sí, pero damos un descuento de cinco por ciento si paga en efectivo.
MUJER - Excelente. Tengo efectivo en mi cartera. Aquí está un billete de veinte dólares y uno de diez.
VENDEDOR - Gracias. Aquí están $5 de cambio y su recibo. ¿Quiere una bolsa?
MUJER - No gracias. No necesito.

Dictation

Dictations are great for practicing listening and spelling in Spanish. Click on "Listen" to hear the dictation of a sentence. The sentence will be read once quickly and then repeated slowly with pauses to write the words. Write the sentence in the textbox. Click on "Check" to check your answer. Don't forget to use correct capitalization, accents and punctuation, or the computer will mark it as incorrect.

Writing

Write a short dialogue of someone bargaining at a store. If you want to type a special character (like an accented letter) in the comments section, you could do one of the following . . .
