Classroom Words
Vocabulary Lesson
In vocabulary lists, you will learn the definite article (el or la = the) along with any vocabulary that are nouns. This will help you remember if the word is masculine or feminine, something that you will learn about in the grammar page of this lesson. Masculine nouns use el as "the," and feminine nouns use la as "the." When vocabulary is listed on dialogue or reading pages, the gender will be listed with an "m" (for masculine) or "f" (for feminine). Click on the classroom words in the table below to hear the pronunciation and repeat.

| ► la mochila | the backpack |
* In some countries they use maestro/maestra for teacher and in others they use profesor/profesora. In some countries maestro/maestra refers to a teacher of young children (elementary school) and profesor/profesora is for teachers in middle school and up.
