How do you say dates in Spanish?

In Spanish when you say dates, the day goes first (the number) and then the month.

  • Examples
  • el 5 de marzo (el cinco de marzo)
  • el 14 de agosto (el catorce de agosto)
  • el 26 de octubre (el veintiseis de octubre)

The exception is the first of the month which is "el primero" (the first).

  • Example
  • el 1 de junio (el primero de junio)

When Spanish-speakers write the date with all numbers, they write the number first. This can cause some confusion because in the United States we write the month first. See the example below of how the same date is written differently in the United States and Spanish-speaking countries.

  • 8/14/2022 = August 14, 2022
  • 14/8/2022 = el 14 de agosto, 2022

In Spanish they also say the year very differently than how we do in English. They don't break up the number like we do in English (twenty twenty-two). They say two thousand twenty-two for the year. We will learn how to say years in Spanish in a future lesson when you will learn how to say very big numbers.

Practice

Section 3
Write the date in Spanish. Write the day (the number) out in words for this exercise. You can review the numbers in lesson 6.

  • Example
  • July 4 - el cuatro de julio

1. January 3

2. February 6

3. March 9

4. April 12

5. May 15

6. June 13

7. July 8

8. August 21

9. September 1

10. October 24

11. November 27

12. December 30
