Lesson 13 - Meses y Estaciones (Months and Seasons)

Language Focus: Months and Seasons

Classroom activities:
1) Each day ask students, "¿Cuál es la fecha?" and write the month and day on the board.

2) ¿Cuándo es tu cumpleaños? - Have the students physically get in order by birthday (not year!) speaking only in Spanish. Point to one end of the room and explain that January 1st starts there. December 30th would be at the other end of the room. Once they've gotten themselves in order, start with the beginning of the year have them call out their birthdays one by one in order.

Language Focus: Present tense -ir verbs

Classroom activities:
1) Charades - Print out the -ir verbs cards, ideally on card stock and cut them out. Mix up the cards and have one student draw a card. The student acts out the verb while the others guess what it is. You could do this activity as a whole class or make multiple sets of cards and have them do it in small groups (4 students?).

2) Conjugate verbs - Use the Subject Pronoun Cards from lesson 3 (pull out the English subject pronouns and use only the Spanish ones) and the -ir verbs cards. Have students draw a verb card and a subject pronoun and conjugate the verb. If they get it correct, they get a point.

Language Focus: Review of months, seasons and present tense

Classroom activities: Have students write about their favorite month.

  • Mi mes favorito es ______ porque _______.

Language Focus: Review of months and present tense

Classroom activities: Have students write a sentence about what they do each month similar to the ones from the reading.

Have the students review any portions of the lesson that they made mistakes in on the quiz.
